This is not Chicago style pizza… this IS Chicago pizza! You don’t have to hitch hike to

Chi-Town to enjoy this one of a kind pizza pie.

I would not say that this pizza is a close second to what you get at any one of Giordano’s 40 locations. IT IS what you would be served right there at the original location on North Rush Street. Even in a fully stocked kitchen with a team of component minions it would be pretty darn difficult to replicate the flaky crust and the well-balanced flavors of the filling… “Filling,” you say? Yes this is a “stuffed pizza,” so it is stuffed rather then topped, making it like a pie! Ah! Maybe that’s why it’s called Pizza Pie ;)

No need for grated Parmesan or red chilly flakes. The cheese has such an amazing flavor and texture that when you cut into it you could stretch it across the room. It was said that maybe the sauce is not as saucy as when you eat it fresh but we all agreed that the marinara had fantastic flavor and added the right amount of acidity to the pizza. Eat this pizza with a knife and fork and you are in for a REAL Chicago treat!

Shipping
Ordering was simple. The website is loaded with information and has an easy to understand breakdown of how delivery works. They make and half bake your pizza at the time of order and then freeze package and ship to you in dry ice. They do use a Styrofoam box so make sure to check with your local recyclers. We knocked off a couple points for shipping because of the use of a Styrofoam box, as this is our practice. We would like to note that there was NO over packaging, which is awesome! The food also arrived on time and from a food safety standpoint it was in good order. We received the pizza before noon and stored it in the refrigerator. It was ready to bake by dinnertime.

Preparation
It’s been said that the devil is in the details… and this might be why we got a little lost. The cooking instructions where simple: “Pre heat oven to 450°f and bake for 20min until pizza is brown.” If we had used these instructions, instead of our common sense, we would have wound up with some VERY cold, sad pizza. After the suggested baking-time we temperature checked the center of the pizza with a butter knife, which we poked into the middle and held there for five seconds. It came out stone cold.

WHAT TO DO??? We reduced the heat down to 375° and baked for another 25min. Taking the cook time from 20min to 45min, which was a bit of a disappointment with a room full of hungry guests. We then waited to make sure that the top was bubbly (a better indicator than a browned crust) and the core temperature was nice and hot. Seeing as the pizza comes half-baked you are not running much risk from under cooking other than that this is a pizza you want to serve it piping hot. We would like to see more information on how to cook and serve, it was not as simple as the six lines of instructions would make it seem. Please keep in mind we have not calibrated this oven and times/temperatures may vary.

Oh, and since we felt like getting a little fancy, we cooked one of our two pizza pies on a heated pizza stone. It was a nice touch but not necessary for delicious results.

Quality and Value
The price range on ordering one of these bad boys is between $17 and $25 (shipping not included). Seeing as it a specialty food item with incredible, high-quality ingredients we felt that the price was reasonable and certainly a lot cheaper than a plane ticket to Chicago. We served five adults and had an entire pizza left over. It is a very decadent pizza and should be eaten with a knife and fork. We ordered two types of pizza from Giordano’s. The Chicago Classic, which has cheese, green peppers, onions mushroom, and pepperoni. We also had the Sausage Pizza, which has lots of delicious sausage and cheese. This is not a food for someone that is counting calories or is faint of heart. Overall, we found Giordano’s Pizza to be a fantastic and highly recommendable pizza choice.

Overall: 94 Points to Giordano’s Pizza!!!

We can wholeheartedly say YEAH to Giordano’s! Incredibly hard to find authentic flavor is only a click away. We do hope that they help us out in the future by offering more detailed instructions on how to prepare this item once it is received. If you miss the taste of Chicago, or if you just want to impress the heck out of your friends the next time they come over to watch the game, this is the ticket! Great “back at home” pizza and you don’t have to tip the delivery guy!!

Path:

Apparently it is in the heartland of Omaha.  Omaha Steaks is focused on steak but their offerin

gs are not limited to just that!

With a simple tap of the finger we were able to order a complete dinner for 4 with next to no hassle.

Taste

The filet steaks are grain fed and perfectly marbled.  Super tender and tasty.  The texture was excellent and there was no need for steak sauce.

We found the recipe book helpful but not necessary.  The prepared seasoning was a nice touch.  To anyone who believes a steak house is heaven these naturally aged cuts of beef are your ambrosia.  The order came with a bonus free 2 lbs ham.  Perfectly smoked with no bone. It made for a nice extra at dinner and an even better breakfast the next morning.

It also would have made for a great grilled ham and cheese if it had lasted that long.  Along with our steak selection (filet and top sir) we ordered two of the there highly recommended side dishes.

Stuffed potatoes and the vegetable medley.

The potatoes were baked in a conventional home oven for the recommended 40 min at 350F.  The stuffed potatoes cooked up perfectly. They plated beautifully and the artful piping into the skin was a nice touch. The stuffed potatoes tasted amazing with a smooth creamy filling and a crispy tender skin.

It was just like having a professional chef in your home minus the cost.  Only one minor deduction on the stuffed potatoes for having a handfuls of ingredients that I cannot pronounce and have NEVER seen in any home kitchen or restaurant kitchen in my life.

Dinner Is Served

The Mixed Vegetables are another story…  Two 7oz trays…

The appearance out of the packaging was lovely.  A great assortment of color, cauliflower, carrots, sugar snap peas, and pepper strips in a seasoning of butter sauce.  The flavor simply was not there.  Brightly colored crayons would have made a better addition to the meal.  Our guest politely pushed them around on their plates to make it look as though they had eaten more then they had.  Finally we gave up and just declared the veggies a loss and relieved our friends from having to “enjoy” them.

Overall Taste

We offer a possible  40 points for taste. All things Considered:  The steaks being well worth the effort, the stuffed potatoes being delicious, and the veggies being a dead loss

We would give the TASTE: 36

Shipping:

The food was painless to order.  The comprehensive website has an easy grab and go system.  Checkout was a breeze.  There is also a catalog and phone order option if you live in the Bermuda Triangle.  Rush delivery is available or you can set a specific order date so that your food shows up when you dictate.

The food arrived carefully packaged in dry ice (a bonus for any science nerd).  We have to note a deduction for the use of a Styrofoam shipping box.  There just has to be a better way.

From a safe food handling perspective everything was Arctic Circle frozen packed carefully in dry ice.  Make sure you allow for defrost time it could make or break  your meal.

We offer 20 point for shipping:

All things considered 17

Preparation:

The cooking of the food was painless. The instructions were easy to follow. There were next to no dishes and the seasoning spice that was included for the steak was great. Actually salt and pepper to taste would have been plenty.

We Offer 20 points for Preparation: An Easy Win for Omaha 20 Points!

Quality and Value:

Omaha Steaks started in 1917.  Their current company motto is “You won’t find a finer steak anywhere” boasting “natural aging”and “expert steak cutters.”

We here at BoxDinners.com would agree.  I may not be ready to rethink all of my meat ordering at this point but I would totally turn to Omaha for a special occasion.  Especially if I want food preparation to be painless!

We could have used less preservatives and flavor enhancers in the possessed food, i.e. the stuffed potatoes. Next time, no vegetable medley as they were sad, sad vegetables.

Side bar:  The package came with a few cards or “conversation starters.” They were hilarious and not a bad touch to a dinner party package.

We offer 20 points for Quality and Value: We would give 17 points

Overall Score

90 points for Omaha Steaks! We here at box dinners can HIGHLY recommend this great company to you!  We will definitely be revisiting this company in the future because they have a wealth of items to offer.

We also hope they will reconsider the Styrofoam shipping box and, perhaps, simplifying their ingredient list on the prepared items.

Take the opportunity to enjoy what Omaha Steaks has to offer and let use know what you think!

Cheers Folks!

Order #1: Unboxing Omaha Steaks

On Monday we placed an order to Omaha Steaks for our first planned dinner party on Friday. We didn’t want to pay for overnight shipping so we went with the express to be sure we had our food for our planned party on Friday night.

Our order arri

ved 24 hours before the party, very well packed in its own cooler, chilled with dry ice.
